Sword Art OnlineReleased in February this year, Sword Art Online The Movie: Ordinal Scale is a Japanese animation adventure and fantasy film based on the light novel series ‘Sword Art Online’ written by Reki Kawahara. The film was produced by A-1 pictures, directed by Tomohiko Itō and character designs were done by Shingo Adachi. The English version was released in March.

Set in 2026, years after the Sword Art Online incident, a new technology emerges: the Augma. This new augmented reality system allows players to use it while being conscious. Augma’s most popular application is the game Ordinal Scale, a new craze that Kirito and his friends dive into, only to learn that it isn’t in fact, all fun and games.Sword Art Online

The storyline is based on technology is an intriguing and relevant take on our AR which is growing popular. Ordinal Scale highlights how games that transform reality are more socially tolerable than virtual reality experiences that can completely isolate your mind from the outside world.

The film is a mixture of tragedy, comedy and romance and has received high praise, especially for fans of the series.
