Los Reyes Magos

Los Reyes Magos

Los Reyes MagosLos Reyes Magos is a Spanish animated movie, that describes the visit of Magi to baby Jesus and rage of Herod. Directed by Antonio Navarro, the movie has been nominated for a Goya Award and comprises the voices of José Coronado, Juan Echanove and Imanol Arias in the Spanish version and voices of Martin Sheen and Emilio Estevez in the English version.

As the title suggests, Spain’s traditionally animated movie utilizes the vague Biblical reference as its set up and then proceeds with dramatic aspects about the journey of Gaspar, Mechior and Balthasar to Bethlehem. The movie sets up its titular protagonists through interweaved scenes earlier. The trio leave their lives behind to find something extraordinary and as a result they become a part of their world on the path to the star.

The movie is presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer. The visuals of the movie are fairly 2D animation if not on par with the traditional feature animation. The animation is done by Animagistudio and works extremely well for the direct-to-video animation done for the movie. The tones of the movie may not look aesthetically pleasing but are nicely presented. Large screen displays of the movie might detect minor banding issues however; the picture quality of the disc is good.
