Jonah Hex

jonah hexProduced by Warner Brothers and DC Comics, Jimmy Hayward’s movie Jonah Hex is based on John Albano’s comic book about a burned-face gunslinger and part-time bounty hunter. Stars like Josh Brolin (Jonah Hex), Megan Fox and John Malkovich have played the important characters in the movie.

During the American civil war, DC antihero Jonah Hex was the captain of an evil gang ruled by Quentin Turnbull (John Malkovich) who burned Jonah’s family alive to take revenge of his son’s death. Turnbull branded Jonah’s face with a hot iron. While being healed by the treatment of red Indians, Jonah gains the special power of communicating with the dead people. Thus, he becomes a bounty hunter and leaves to hunt Turnbull for revenge.

Artist Ara Khanikian and his team have used 2d animation in the entire part of Jonah getting healed by the Indians and becoming a hunter. The team has used an ample amount of matte paintings composited with green-screen footage to create a 70s look. The matte paintings are created and edited in Photoshop and XSI.

The overall composition is created in Flame and Nuke. They have created CG crows and smoke in 3ds Max and Fume FX inthe shots where smoke comes out of Jonah’s mouth and the scene with the crow. The CG shots are specially created by the vfx artists of Pixel Magic.
